The impact we make starts in our own backyard.

Since 2011, the NFL Players Association has partnered with the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center supporting its mission to find a cure for cancer and provide world-class care to patients in Washington, D.C. and around the world. DeMaurice Smith serves as the honorary chair of the annual Lombardi Gala, an event that has raised millions of dollars for the center's groundbreaking research. During the gala, the NFLPA Georgetown Lombardi Award is annually presented to a sports figure whose life and career has been touched by cancer.

Past honorees include New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, broadcaster Bryant Gumbel, NFL wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald as well as former NFL player Devon Still and his daughter Leah.
